I recently discovered CrunchyRoll.com, and the first anime I decided to watch was Mainichikaasan, a cute and funny story about a 39-year-old manga-artist named Reiko. A mom-of-two, Reiko works from home and is married to a beer-guzzling, Homer-Simpson-like, traveling photographer who is simply named Father.
Set in contemporary Japan, the events that take place in mom’s life are many times hectic and super-crazy with deadlines and juggling two three kids at once. Father can sometimes act a little like a child himself, but loves his dear children Fumi and Bunji as well and does everything he can, usually while holding a can.
I seem to have taken a liking to this anime, probably because it sort of gives an insight on how life as a cartoonist-parent living in Japan would be like. I kind of think of this anime as a laid-back Japanese version of the Simpsons, with focus on the everyday life of hard-working mom.
If Mainichikaasan seems like your kind of kick-back family fun anime, click here to check it out at CrunchyRoll.com! I give it two thumbs up. Definitely a little different from your typical super-power mecha-suit vampire-spells anime, but worth a gander. But don’t take my word for it!
